2do. Torneo de Surf Quixmoto, 2010

The 2nd Quimixto Surf Tournament takes place January 30 – 31, 2010. It is recommended to come by panga and spend the day or to be prepared for camping overnight. There are no regular facilites at this beach but food and drink will be available from vendors or from the village.

This is REAL surf tournament with prizes in 4 categories (Open, Body Board, Juvenile and Women) from $1000 to $20,000 pesos in each class. Entry fees for contestants vary from $150 – $250 pesos. There is no charge for attending.

Whether you are a surfer or a “watcher”, these tournaments are exciting, action-packed and well attended by the local surfing communities. The Mexican Association of Surfing is a small, but fast-growing association bringing surfing tourism to the Banderas Bay and local surrounding areas.

Not only does this bring recognition to the amazing beaches of the area, it stimulates the economy in some of the very small beach towns.

The Puerto Vallarta 2009 International Half Marathon and 5K will be held Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Augustin Flores Contreras Municipal Sports Stadium. Everyone is invited and there are, along with the professional Half Marathon, race categories for every age and ability.

THE COURSE

The start and finish will be at the Augustin Flores Contreras Municipal Sports Stadium near the Sheraton Hotel, just north of Centro, Puerto Vallarta. The race will head north on Francisco Ascencio Ave. and returning on the same route from Las Juntas, north of the Puerto Vallarta Airport.

PRIZES

$250,000 pesos will be awarded in the various categories and divisions. The Award ceremony will be held in the Augustin Flores Contreras Municipal Sports Stadium at 11 am on Sunday, November 8, following the completion of the races. A 14% tax is charged foreign runners.

Medals will be awarded.

REGISTRATION

Registration must be completed no later than Saturday, November 7, 2009. Register online at www.active.com or at the EXPO HEALTH being held at the same Sports Stadium November 6 and 7, from 10 am to 6 pm.

From 12 to June 14, the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Stadium will host the Second International Beach Volley Ball Tournament with 12 teams: 10 foreign and 2 Mexican. Countries of Bulgaria, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, United States, Italy, Romania, Guatemala, Poland, Greece and Mexico which will be represented in this tournament.

The elimination games will take place on Friday, June 12 and on Saturday June 13 from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm. The finals will be played on Sunday, June 14. A special stage inside the sports arena has been constructed that has a capacity of 3,000 fans.

June 12

• 10 am – Canada and Costa Rica
• 11 am – United States and Greece
• noon – Poland and El Salvador
• 1 pm – Guatemala and Italy
• 3 pm – Brazil and first winning team
• 4 pm – Mexico

June 13

• 11 am to 6 pm – Eliminations

June 14

• 11 am and 12:30 pm – Semifinal matches
• 2 pm – third place game
• 3:30 pm – first and second place game

The prize of the tournament will be the amount of $100,000 pesos. The 3-day beach volleyball tournament will be broadcast nationally via cable television.

Admission is free. The games are played from 11 am to 6 pm.
