2013 Puerto Vallarta Wine Festival

puerto vallarta 2013 wine festivalPuerto Vallarta, in spite of not being a wine growing tourist destination, has celebrated an annual Wine Festival for the last six years with great success, and this year will be no exception.

Though in previous years, the festival spotlighted wines from a guest country, this year the star will be the grape, with a focus on the varieties that are elaborated all around the world to produce fine wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay.

Throughout the 2013 Vallarta Wine Fest, attendees will not only enjoy wine tastings and food pairing events at a variety of restaurants and hotels in the Banderas Bay area, but also a host of free cultural events that are open to the public, including “The Noblest Wines of the World Grand Event-Exposition-Tasting” on Saturday, March 23rd at the Hotel Velas Vallarta.

Scheduled to be held from 11 am to 7 pm in the Salón de Convenciones, this event allows all wine-lovers to enjoy a variety of wines accompanied by various cheeses, breads, and deli meats. Note: A minimal deposit must be made to receive your wine tasting cup, which will be refunded upon its return at the end of the event.

  • LA CRUZ FARMERS MARKET (MERCADO HUANACAXTLE) — 10 am to 2 pm at the La Cruz Marina.
  • SUNSET MILONGA — 4:30 to 8 pm at the Hotel Rosita, at the top of the Malecon. Free tango lessons from 4:30 to 5:30 and then tango dancing until 8. Food and drink available for purchase.
  • BANDERAS BAY WOMENS SHELTER FUNDRAISER — 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Food, fashion, drinks, music and a very good cause. At the Paradise Community Center, 127 Pulpito. 200 pesos.
  • CONCERT — Municipal Band, beginning at 6 pm, Presidencia Square, FREE
  • PUBLIC DANCE — the Sunday Evening Dance, 7 pm, traditional dancing to live music in the Presidencia Square, FREE

  • VALLARTA ART WALK — 6 to 10 pm. Stroll through 13 downtown art galleries, meet the artists and see some of the finest art Vallarta has to offer. Some galleries offer welcoming cocktails and snacks. Each week is different. Free.
  • BINGO NIGHT AT NACHO DADDY — 6 pm at 180 Basilio Badillo. Half time entertainment by MISS CONCEPTION. Proceeds benefit the PuRR Project, a no-kill feline sanctuary north of Vallarta.
  • FIESTA MEXICANA — 7 to 11 pm in Parque Lázaro Cárdenas Plaza. Free musical and dance performances by local artists, along with affordable food and beverages (10 to 70 pesos a serving) provided by local restaurants. Sponsored by the city of Vallarta.
  • VALLARTA EN BICI — Every Wednesday 100s of bicyclists ride from the Whale sculpture at the Marina to the Malecon. 9 pm. Free.
