1st Annual Quixmixto Surf Tournament » March 7 & 8

The small surf town of Quimixto, just south of Puerto Vallarta, will be the home of the 1st Annual Quimixto Surf Tournament on March 7 and 8, 2009.

Over 60 International and National entries and 6000 spectators are expected. 800 spectators are expected each day. Since this small beach town is accessable only by water taxi, I’m a little skeptical of these figures, but it DOES sound like a good time. Water taxis will be available for 25 pesos per person from the beach at Boca.

Registration for the tournament is from Wednesday February 25 until March 6 at a cost of 250 pesos per entrant.

Activities will be from 9 am to 6 pm each day.

Prizes will be awarded to the first four places, where the first place will receive 10,000 pesos, the second 5,000 pesos, 3,000 for third 2,000 pesos for fourth.

A Bikini Contest will also be held, with visitors judging the winners.

Vallarta Yacht Club 6th Annual Art and Wine Festival » February 22

Sixth Annual Art and Wine Festival

by Kathy Taylor – PVNN

Vallarta Yacht Club Logo

Over 50 different California, Oregon, and Washington state wines will be offered to taste and compare at the Vallarta Yacht Club’s Sixth Annual Art and Wine Festival in Nuevo Vallarta.

The Sixth Annual Art and Wine Festival will be held at the Vallarta Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta on Sunday, February 22nd, from 3 to 6 pm.

Local artists, photographers and jewelry makers will display their work, with some pieces offered for sale, coordinated by local artist Mary Ladner.

Meanwhile, Mary’s husband, Rob, an alumni of the University of California Winemaking School who conducts tastings at the Silver Mountain Winery in Santa Cruz California, will preside over the Wine Festival. Rob promises some exceptional wines, from tasty bargains to $40 bottles in a unique tasting procedure.

Admission to the event is $100 pesos, which will give each attendee 10 tasting tickets. Wines will vary in “tasting value” from one to six tickets. Favorite wines will also be available for purchase by the glass.

Over 50 different California, Oregon, and Washington state wines will be offered to taste and compare. There will also be some Mexican, Chilean, Spanish, Italian, and other fine wines to sample, all accompanied by gourmet appetizers.

Visit the silent auction tables where you can bid on art, jewelry, fine wines and liquors, and other items. The proceeds from the event go to the Vallarta Yacht Club and are used to support the Junior Sailing program and to promote sailing opportunities for youth in the Banderas Bay area.

For more information, contact Rob or Mary Ladner at (322) 297-1557.

If you are interested in entering your favorite dish, you need to be at the restaurant by noon. 100 percent of the proceeds goes to the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) of Puerto Vallarta. The judges are local “celebrities” and employees of the Red Cross. There will be a demonstration by the junior bomberros, too.

Around130 people attended last year and 13 chefs entered the cook off competition. This year 16 cooks have signed up to enter their best dish. Categories for the cook off include, red chili, white chili, cold pasta and hot pasta. For more information contact Douglas, his email is DouglasTiedeman (at) hotmail.com.

Last year around $17,000 pesos was raised and it was used to buy a defibrillator and two batteries for their ambulance.
