Much excitement and activity in the air. High season is here. Much activity, many new restaurants and shops, many new faces….

This is an extended “weekly” calendar because of Christmas.

SUNDAY December 16

  • ETHNIC CULINARY FAIR — 10 am to 10 pm in Park Hidalgo. A cultural fair with food demonstrations, dance and crafts from various Jalisco indigenous people. Runs until December 30.
  • VIA RECREACTIVA — 8 am to 2 pm. From the Sports Stadium to the Holiday Inn, Fco. Medina Ascencio (the main airport road) will be closed to traffic for a public walk, bicycle, run. Traffic will be diverted to the laterals.
  • ETHNIC CULINARY FAIR — 10 am to 10 pm in Park Hidalgo. A cultural fair with food demonstrations, dance and crafts from various Jalisco indigenous people. Runs until December 30.
  • LA CRUZ FARMERS MARKET (MERCADO HUANACAXTLE) — 10 am to 2 pm at the La Cruz Marina.
  • SUNSET MILONGA AND LATIN DANCE PARTY — 4:30 to 8 pm at the Hotel Rosita, Paseo Diaz Ordaz # 901. Free class from 4:30 – 5:30 pm and Dancing from 5:30 – 8 pm (Tango, Salsa, Cumbia, Bachata, Merengue). Drink and food available for purchase.
  • CONCERT — Municipal Band, beginning at 6 pm, Presidencia Square, FREE
  • PUBLIC DANCE — the Sunday Evening Dance, 7 pm, traditional dancing to live music in the Presidencia Square, FREE
  • XUITLA BALLET — 8 pm at Los Arcos del Malecon. Folkloric Dance. Free.
  • VALLARTA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CHRISTMAS CONCERT — 8 pm at the American College (Albatros #129 by the airport). Selections include The Christmas Song, Christmas medleys, Mozarts’ Allelluia and Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks. 100 pesos admission / Students and children free. Also a similar performance at Paradise Community Center on Monday, December 17.
  • THE MALECÓN — When the sun goes down, the Malecón comes alive. Come out and see and stroll the new Malecon!

MONDAY December 17

  • VALLARTA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CHRISTMAS CONCERT — 8 pm at the Paradise Community Center. Selections include The Christmas Song, Christmas medleys, Mozarts’ Allelluia and Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks. 100 pesos admission / Students and children free.

TUESDAY December 18

  • ETHNIC CULINARY FAIR — 10 am to 10 pm in Park Hidalgo. A cultural fair with food demonstrations, dance and crafts from various Jalisco indigenous people. Runs until December 30.
  • MALECON SCULPTURE WALKING TOUR — 9:30 am. Gary Thompson leads the best free art tour in Vallarta. Discover the real stories behind the many sculptures on our Malecon.
  • TOURS OF CENTRO VALLARTA — at 9 am and noon beginning at the old city hall. Free tours of downtown Vallarta with professional tour guides. The tours include iconic points, galleries, craft markets and some shops and / or restaurants.
  • PEACE HOME TOURS — 10:30 am starting at Plaza Romy. Tour the homes of the Vallarta rich and famous. 450 pesos.
  • EXPATS IN VALLARTA HAPPY HOUR — 5 -7 pm at Langostino’s on Los Muertos Beach. Reservations necessary. sarajwise@yahoo.com
  • SALSA-CUMBIA BENEFIT BINGO — 6 pm at Nacho Daddy, 180 Basilio Badillo. Benefit for the PuRR Project. Salsa dancing at intermission. Food and drinks available for purchase.
  • EVERY TUESDAY FILMS — The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. 7 pm at the Paradise Community Center, 127 Pulpito. 60 pesos advance, 70 at the door. Food and drink available for purchase. Benefit for Democrats Abroad.

WEDNESDAY December 19

  • ETHNIC CULINARY FAIR — 10 am to 10 pm in Park Hidalgo. A cultural fair with food demonstrations, dance and crafts from various Jalisco indigenous people. Runs until December 30.
  • IFC HOME TOURS — 10:30 am staring at I. Vallarta and Aquiles Serdan. Tour the homes of the Vallarta rich and famous. Proceeds benefit the IFC cleft palate program. 450 pesos.
  • INTERNATIONAL FOOD FAIR & MARKET — 4 to 7:30 pm at the Paradise Community Center at 127 Pulpito.
  • VALLARTA ART WALK — 6 to 10 pm. Stroll through 13 downtown art galleries, meet the artists and see some of the finest art Vallarta has to offer. Some galleries offer welcoming cocktails and snacks. Each week is different. Free.
  • FIESTA MEXICANA — 7 to 11 pm in Parque Lázaro Cárdenas Plaza. Free musical and dance performances by local artists, along with affordable food and beverages (10 to 70 pesos a serving) provided by local restaurants. Sponsored by the city of Vallarta.
  • ALEGRIA! PV MENS CHORUS HOLIDAY CONCERT — 8 pm at Teatro Vallarta. A one-day-only bilingual performance consisting of nearly two hours of music including international holiday classics such as Ave Maria, Silent Night and Oh Holy Night as well as Mexican favorites including Ven a Mi Casa esta Navidad and Las Posadas. Tickets 100 tp 250 pesos.

THURSDAY December 20

  • VALLARTA SCENE EXPAT MEETUP — 5 pm to 8 pm at Casa Isabel. A lively *extended* happy hour get-together for expats, visitors and nationals. Everyone is invited.
  • SLIME AND PUNISHMENT – BOOK SIGNING — 6 to 9 pm at Lucy’s Cucu Cabana, 295 Basilio Badillo. Local author Gil Gevin’s latest book. Live music, margaritas….
  • CONCERT — Municipal Band, 7 pm, Presidencia Square, FREE
  • ALWAYS IN SEASON – A MUSICAL CELEBRATION — 8 pm at the Boutique Theater at Basilio Badillo and Naranjo. Popular tunes and seasonal favorites by Time to Play, Syng and the Enchiladies. Complimentary dessert during the show. 250 pesos with a percentage going to New Life Mexico.
  • LOTERIA (MEXICAN BINGO) — 8 to 10 pm at Bar Frida. “Come and get lucky.” Fabulous prizes. Drink specials. No cover.

    • SATURDAY FARMERS MARKET — At the Paradise Community Center on Pulpito in Old Town. 9 to 1 pm. Year-round (this is the “alternative market”).
    • VALLARTA TOURIST FARMERS MARKET — 9:30 am to 2 pm at Caranza and Pino Suarez (This is the “official city-sponsored market”).
    • ETHNIC CULINARY FAIR — 10 am to 10 pm in Park Hidalgo. A cultural fair with food demonstrations, dance and crafts from various Jalisco indigenous people. Runs until December 30.
    • DOGS & CATS — SPCA Pet Adoptions, Los Mangos Library, 10 am to 2 pm.
