PV Beach Club

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The PV Beach Club is a funky, two floor expat bar on the north side of Centro. The backstreet entrance is deceptive, very plain and almost invisible but once you get inside you realize the gem-quality of this bar. It is directly on the beach with a few tables and umbrellas. Downstairs is compact with a bar and a large table inside and upstairs is quite nice, with amazing views and traditional furnishings. But upstairs is for “members only.” Membership is cheap, 100 pesos a year or 500 for a lifetime. The drinks are very reasonable and of good quality and the food menu is more than adequate for a bar. It’s the location and the extras that make this bar stand out from the competition.

COMMENTS ( from the owners )

“PV Beach Club is a cozy (but fun) refuge from the hustle and bustle of downtown Puerto Vallarta, and is located right on the beach near downtown, just minutes from the Malecon and is one of the few public bars on the beach in PV! We cater to everyone, especially visitors seeking local flavor in a familiar setting.”

La Huerta

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

You pretty much already have to know where La Huerta is before you can find it. Its street presentation leaves a lot to be desired but once you step inside the gate, the scene is amazing. The restaurant is built on two levels, with the kitchen, main eating area and bar up on street level (tho completely hidden from the street by buildings and tropical jungle trees and plants. The second area is river front on the Cuale River (the same river that runs through downtown Vallarta). On the opposite side of this river are immense cliffs of rock. On the restaurant side is a sandy beach. This is a location carved out of paradise.

La Huerta has a low priced bar and a menu of modest pricing with the normal Mexican fare except on Sunday afternoons when it becomes a “Mongolian BBQ” from around noon until 5 or 6. A large round serving area is set up and people walk around it with a plate and put on that plate anything they wish from the dozens of items offered: Meats, vegis and fruit, with assorted salsas. This plate is then handed to a cook who stir fries it all together. This plate is then brought to your table where mariachis serenade you as you eat and/or drink.

La Huerta is large and can accommodate up to 400 people for parties or special events. There is sometimes parking inside and limited parking on the dirt street. The R-04 Paso Ancho bus will stop right in front if you ask the driver and all taxis know where it is.

Cuates y Cuetes

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Cuates y Cuetes (Buddies and Fireworks), or CyCs as it is called locally, is a beach front restaurant-bar located at the center of the Los Muertos Beach action. The fishing pier is almost directly in front and all of the boating action of this beach is front and center.

Cuates y Cuetes is totally open with only a roof and a back wall, keeping it cool and airy in the summer. It has a full bar with normally high beach drink prices (high, as are most of the prices on this beach, but not unreasonably so).

It is a favorite sunset drinking spot for expats as well as tourists and many interesting characters may often be found there. After 8 pm on many nights there is often live music, mostly by Latin or jazz combos.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • ADDRESS: At the foot of the Los Muertos Beach pier, Francisca Rodríguez 101, Colonia Emiliano Zapata, Old Town

Asaderos

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Asaderos is an open grill restaurant serving inexpensive “All You Can Eat” ribs, steak, chicken and sausage. Also has a full menu including appetizers, salads, fish, shrimp, surf & turf and even has a children’s menu (rare here in Vallarta) and a Bar Menu (from 10 am to 11 pm).

There is a large outdoor seating area on the street by the open grill and a very large indoor seating area by the bar. Live music is occasionally presented and there are many large screen TVs for sporting events.

This is not an upscale gourmet restaurant but, rather, a comfortable family restaurant and hangout, almost cantina-style, where you will find an interesting mix of expats, locals and tourists. The atmosphere is rustic. “Asadero” means “grill.”

Harry’s Bar

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Harry’s English Pub is in a rustic, large, two floor store front a bit off the regular Vallarta tourist tracks. Downstairs is a lively, late-night bar directed mainly towards younger singles who avoid the high prices of the Malecon clubs and prefer the bar scene to the club scene. During early hours it appeals to locals because of the happy hour and “local” discounts.

The music is loud and varied tending towards newer or Continental selections, more club-like than bar-like. There is a dance pole for the more expressive women and a pool table and dart board for the less expressive men. The food served is English pub-style with a few Vallarta standards thrown in (wings, nachos…). It is relatively inexpensive and simple.

Upstairs is spacious, casual and open-aired. There are hammocks for for those into alternative modes of imbibing. There is also a second pool table.
