  • approximately 40 Members of the U.S. House and Senate
  • the Medicare Program Oversight Manager in the Office of Management & Budget
  • the International Policy Director of American Association of Retired People (AARP)
  • the Deputy Director for Health Policy at the Center for American Progress
  • other public policy and political advocacy experts supportive of the initiative

The event will be held at the home of:

THAI MASSAGE
The traditional massage of Thailand is an ancient form of therapeutic bodywork first practiced over 2500 years ago. It combines acupressure, yoga, compression and deep stretching techniques utilizing the practitioner’s palms, thumbs, elbows, soles of feet and knees to release muscles and free joints. Performed on a floor mat, both practitioner and client move through four positions (front, back, side and seated). Thai massage oxygenates the blood, improves circulation, increases joint flexibility, massages internal organs, reduces stress, increases energy and facilitates mind/body spirit balance. It is often referred to as ‘yoga for lazy people.’

3rd Encuentro Internacional de Medicina Natural y Alternativa » January 30 to February 15

From January 30 to February 15 in Lázaro Cárdenas Park, the 3rd Encuentro Internacional de Medicina Natural y Alternativa (Third Edition of the International Meeting on Natural and Alternative Medicine), featuring local and International specialists from various natural disciplines will take place.

When you first walk into this show, you might think, “Oh, no, just another schlocky tourist trap.” Don’t be fooled by this first reaction. There are treasures here, both in knowledge and experience. Talk to the vendors. Skip the ones with the hype and the plastic trinkets (although some of the “trinket” booths have much more than “trinkets”). Concentrate on the ones who have something real to say. The purpose is to learn, to encounter. In the “traditional medicine” realm, there is pomada peyote, damiana, pomada marijuana, coco leaves, coffee bean necklaces, eagle-claw rattles….

Five workshops will be conducted including:

  • El de Reiki (Reiki)
  • Cristales y Cuarzos (Crystals and Quartz)
  • Yoga, que será impartido por una especialista cubana (Yoga, taught by a Cuban specialist)
  • Numerología (Numerology)
  • Herbolaria (herbalism)

Workshops that will cost an average of 300 pesos each, except those that are commercial, which will cost 2000 pesos.

There will be dance performances and experts in massage, acupuncture with the demonstration and sale of spiritual and natural products.

World AIDS Day March » December 1

An Open Invitation from V.E.S. on World AIDS Day

– by Ed Thomas

The 1st of December, World AIDS Day, is the day when individuals and organizations from around the world come together to bring attention to the global AIDS epidemic.

Here in Puerto Vallarta, World AIDS Day will be commemorated with a march along the Malecón that begins at Parque Hidalgo on Monday, December 1st at 8:30 am and ends at Los Arcos with speeches by different state and local dignitaries.

world aids day marchPV World AIDS Day participants will gather at the Parque Hidalgo at 8 am to prepare for the 8:30 am start. We would love to have a big turn out for this march. There is always a good turnout from the schools and the women of Vallarta, but we would like to show that the expats and the seasonal residents care about what goes on here locally.

Also for those marching we ask that you wear a white shirt or T Shirt. We will provide the red ribbons, and if you would like to make and carry a banner with supporting words or the name of a friend/relative with the virus or affected by it all are welcome. Also in other cities people have carried Red & White balloons feel free to do so at this event.

VES will be providing free rapid testing that day at three different sites along the Malecón; at the end near the fishing boats, at the seahorse statue, and at the Los Arcos Amphitheater. The tests, which take approximately 15 minutes, will be available at all three locations from 10 am-2 pm and from 3-7 pm.

Helping out the VES mobile detection unit that day will be a crew from CAPASITS (Centro Ambulatorio para la Prevencion y Atencion del VIH/SIDA e Infecciones de Transmision Sexual) and a crew from SSJ (the Secreteria de Salud Jalisco.)

As 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of the first World Aids Day celebration in 1988, the theme of this year’s observation is “Keep the Promise – Stop Aids.”
