Katmandu Live » Monday, May 11

Dear Friends,

As we all know, the past few weeks has been a very rough time for all of us in Puerto Vallarta!

All of the stores, hotels, restaurants, and clubs have taken a big economic hit. Some of the hardest hit has been the local musicians, most of who abruptly lost their jobs without any notice. Relief is not in site as the normal low of Low Season is almost upon us.

For the wonderful gift of music given to me over the years, I would like to extend my hand to some Puerto Vallarta’s best musicians. It is also an opportunity for all of us rejoice and feel good again after the negative energy perpetuated by the world press.

Please join me this Monday night, 8:00 pm May 11, at Casa Amorita for a wonderful night of music by Katmandu. Many of you may already have had the opportunity to experience their inspirational mix of the Indian sitar and traditional western instruments.

As you may be aware, special events to feature the music of Katmandu have been presented by Cafe des Artistes, The River Cafe, Girasol, and Cafe de Artistes del Mar for Katmandu.

A recommended cover charge of $150 pesos will be taken at the door. A pay-as-you go bar will be available before the first set and during intermission.

Hope to see you Monday!

Ya Basta’ Flu

To the rest of the world, swine flu is now back page news, or no news at all. Medical spokesmen have come to the conclusion that this flu wasn’t really that big of a deal and its “pandemic” even less. All throughout this “pandemic” the United Nations World Health Organization, who’s “pandemic index” number was probably more quoted than the date, has said that no special actions were necessary or recommended for this flu. NO travel restrictions were ever suggested.

clausurado

Yet Puerto Vallarta is under a virtual sea, land and air blockade and a self-imposed 2 week economic boycott. Children are forbidden to attend school. Businesses are closed down, driving thousands of people into poverty here when public health concern would suggest that strengthening individual health is a more beneficial disease preventative. Crime will increase as people slip farther into poverty. We’ve all seen the hysteria and its effects. Where is the logic?

What’s going on? This is no longer a public health issue.

The theories abound as to why this is going on. Some people say it has to do with the current political race, one party trying to make the other look bad, some say it has to do with cartels “getting back” at the government for recent crackdowns. Some say it has to do with an economic ripoff, the same way that the chupacabre scare in the mid 90s paved the way for the government here to start “regularizing” the ejido land away from the Indians. Some people say it has to do with unloading expired Tamiflu stocks. Some say this is economic warfare waged by the US against Mexico. Some say it is simple racism.

Very few people say that the efforts taken by the government and the media have anything to do with promoting and protecting public health.

Cat Trap & Sterilize Training » May 12

SPCA-PV is beginning its feral cat trap-sterilize-release program in Puerto Vallarta and will have its first training session Tuesday, May 12 at 4 p.m. at Hacienda San Angel, 336 Miramar in El Cerro, above the Cathedral de Guadalupe.

  • The average number of litters a fertile cat can have a year: 3
  • The average number of kittens: 5
  • In 7 years, 1 cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats

A sterilization program is key to reducing the number of uncared for and abandoned cats in Puerto Vallarta.

If you live in a neighborhood with a population of feral cats, and you would like to learn how to trap wild cats and participate in the program, contact Janice Chatterton at A href=”mailto:info@haciendasanangel.com”>info (at) haciendasanangel.com. Also, please contact Janice if you know anyone who feeds feral cats on a regular basis.

SPCA-PV will have its first trapping day Sunday, May 17. Surgery will take place Monday, May 18.
