This is the LOW season. Lo siento, amigos, pero Vallarta is now for the residents and the Nationals, not the foreign tourists. Many, many private parties… lots of beach time… lots of sun…

SUNDAY September 11

• CONCERT — Primer concierto de la Orquesta Escuela de Puerto Vallarta. Noon at Cecatur Auditorium, Centro Vallarta. 50 pesos.
• CONCERT — Municipal Band, 7 pm, Presidencia Square, FREE
• PUBLIC DANCE — the Sunday Evening Dance, 7 pm, traditional dancing to live music in the Presidencia Square, FREE
• QUEEN OF THE FIESTAS PATRIAS — 7 pm in the Presidencia. Crowning of Vallarta’s 2011 queen of the fiesta. Free.
• THE MALECÓN — When the sun goes down, the Malecón comes alive. (except at this time the Malecón is partially closed for renovations….)

MONDAY September 12

• MONDAY CLASSIC MOVIES — Designing Women (1977), 6 pm at Biblioteca Los Mangos. 15 pesos. (in English)

TUESDAY September 13

• CHARRO PARADE — 11 am, Beginning at Insurgentes and Madero and continuing down Libertad and Juarez. Lots of cowboys, cowgirls, horses and colerful riding and dress. Traffic downtown Vallarta will be bad.

WEDNESDAY September 14

• THE GRITO — 11 pm, at the Presidencia. Grito (the cry for independence) followed by the national hymn and then fireworks and a public dance.

FRIDAY September 16

• NATIONAL HOLIDAY — Government offices, banks, schools, etc closed. MILITARY/CIVIC PARADE.

• VIVE MEXICO ART SHOW OPENING — 6 – 9 pm, Galleria Vallarta, local artists with theme of the revolution and typical Mexico. Cocktails, botana. Free
• VALLARTASCENE FRIDAY FIESTA — 6 – 9 pm happy hour at The Sea Monkey on Los Muertos Beach. Everyone invited to a casual, inexpensive social evening with strange people.
• XIUTLA BALLET — 7 pm, Plaza Caracol, Free.
