Milan Mansfield

This event is being held in the old Machis Restaurant location at the corner of Lazaro Cardenas and Jacarandas.

Sebastian Loza
These very young artists, Alessandro Luthi, Ernesto Gispert, Milan Mansfield and Sebastian Loza, ranging in ages from 11 to 13 years old, have dedicated themselves to painting for the past three years in the Workshop of Maestro Oscar Montiel. It´s an extraordinary moment in any life to find a calling at such a young age!

Ernesto Gispert
What´s more extraordinary is their desire to create a scholarship fund for a less fortunate child by donating 15% of the proceeds from the sale of their paintings and they have chosen R.I.S.E. (Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza) in the hopes that another young artist will have the opportunity to be nurtured in the craft of art as well. Maestro Montiel will match the proceeds raised.

Alessandro LuthiInstead of kicking back with a video game after school, these exceptional young boys made their way to Montiel´s workshop, mixed a palette, found a brush and set to work on their latest creations from lyrical animals to impressionistic still life’s to natural realism landscapes, offering something to every art lover.

Not only is the art fantastic, meeting these young boys will be a real treat.

PUERTO VALLARTA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA’S MARCH 15 CONCERT

Canadian Composition to be performed in March Chamber Orchestra Concert

Prepare for an evening of musical treats on March 15 at the American School when the Vallarta Chamber Orchestra presents its spring concert. One of theses treats will be a performance of Hinemoa and Tutanekai by John Robertson, a Canadian composer and arranger. This composition features the string section and local flautist, d’Rachael.

John Robertson was born in New Zealand where he began his study of music with three years of his post secondary training being in music. He moved to Canada in 1967 and took a three year course at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Although his career was not in music, composing has been a life long passion.

Mr. Robertson has had his compositions performed about thirty times, including four times by the Puerto Vallarta Chamber Orchestra. Since first becoming associated with the orchestra, numerous pieces have been arranged by Mr. Robertson to suit the orchestras specific instrumentation.

The same concert also features local bassoon player, Emilia Torres who will play the first movement of the J.C. Bach Bassoon Concerto. The very talented, Ms. Torres has been a member of the orchestra for four years.

Filling out the program are works by Beethoven, Bach, Verdi and Grieg. Truly there will be something for everyone in this magical evening of music. The concert begins at 8 p.m. The American School is located directly south of the airport, near Plaza Marina. For further information please call Mary MacLachlan 322-134-8855.

1st Annual Quixmixto Surf Tournament » March 7 & 8

The small surf town of Quimixto, just south of Puerto Vallarta, will be the home of the 1st Annual Quimixto Surf Tournament on March 7 and 8, 2009.

Over 60 International and National entries and 6000 spectators are expected. 800 spectators are expected each day. Since this small beach town is accessable only by water taxi, I’m a little skeptical of these figures, but it DOES sound like a good time. Water taxis will be available for 25 pesos per person from the beach at Boca.

Registration for the tournament is from Wednesday February 25 until March 6 at a cost of 250 pesos per entrant.

Activities will be from 9 am to 6 pm each day.

Prizes will be awarded to the first four places, where the first place will receive 10,000 pesos, the second 5,000 pesos, 3,000 for third 2,000 pesos for fourth.

A Bikini Contest will also be held, with visitors judging the winners.
