From June 9 to 26, there will be a retrospective “Ayer y Hoy” art exhibition of mainly bronze and terra cotta sculptures by Eva Barreño in the Naval Museum, next to the Los Arcos Amphitheater on the Malecon.

This exhibition is sponsored by the Municipal Government of Puerto Vallarta and the Subdirección de Arte y Cultura. Entrance to the exhibit is free.

Leno Morfin’s The Dreams to See » gallery opening, June 5

Mexican painter Leno Morfin is coming back to Mexico, and you can meet him at the opening of his new art show, ‘The Dreams to See’ at the Puerto Vallarta Public Library, Biblioteca Los Mangos, on June 5th at 8 pm. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be offered.

Leno will also be offering free art workshops on traditional Chinese water-print painting at the library on June 6th and 13th at 11 am.

Leno was born in the Sierra Madre of Jalisco, at the age of sixteen, his family immigrated to the United States. After many years in Chicago the artist comes back to Mexico. Among his future plans is a tour in Mexican museums together with the French artist Louis Durot with whom Leno has been exhibiting throughout the world.

Benefit Art Auction » Friday, February 20

On Friday, February 20, will be held the first art auction to benefit La Casa Hogar Máximo Cornejo. Important works of local artists such as Lou Mactavish, Mac Mactavish, Marcella Lepe, Ada Colorin, Gloria Fuentes and Enrique Lambarri, among others, will be auctioned.

The event will take place at the Marina Plaza and start at 4 pm at the central kiosk within the Plaza.

Entry to the Auction is 50 pesos (which is donated in full to the home) and entitles you to enjoy the auction, cocktails and snacks. There is also a fashion show and performances of dance and music.

The total sales of the artists will go to facilities, education, nutrition and care of children living Casa Hogar Máximo Cornejo.

The event was organized by AGI Real Estate and the home aims to bring together art lovers and altruism to support this local non-profit that currently serves just over 50 children in vulnerable situations.

The home is designed to support and enhance the quality of life of children who come from unfortunate situations of abuse and family disintegration.

Marcos Ramirez ERRE was born in 1961 in Tijuana, Baja California Mexico. He holds a Law Degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California. Erre immigrated to the United States where he worked for seventeen years in the construction industry as a carpenter.

In 1989, he became active in the field of visual arts, since then he has participated in different individual and collective exhibitions in Mexico, the United States, Russia, Puerto Rico, France, Spain, Cuba, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and has participated in major exhibitions, such as InSite94; InSite97; the VI and VII Havana Biennials; the 2000 Whitney Biennial; the San Juan Poly/Graphic Triennial; Made in California; Mexico Illuminated; From Baja to Vancouver, and Politica de la Diferencia, Arte Iberoamericano de fin de siglo; Human/Nature, the 2007 Sao Paulo /Valencia Biennial; the California Biennial 08; and the second Moscow Biennial among others. In 2007 received a USA Artist Fellowship, and is currently developing a program for Estacion Tijuana, a non-profit alternative space at the San Diego-Tijuana border with a focus in Art, Architecture, Urbanism and Popular Culture. Erre will have a the first one-person exhibition at El Cubo, a new museum in Tijuana in 2009.
