The Puerto Vallarta Chamber Orchestra’s Spring Concert » March 21

The Puerto Vallarta Chamber Orchestra’s Spring Concert

Sunday, March 21, 2010, 8 pm at the American School / Colegio Americano in the Plaza Marina.

Closing its fifth season, the Vallarta Chamber Orchestra invites you, your family and friends to join us and our new conductor, Don Bieghler, for an evening of music under the stars.

The varied program includes the light hearted music of Copland’s “Hoe Down,” movie music from “Somewhere in Time,” classical music of Mozart, and Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony.” Featured soloist for the evening will be the orchestra’s Concert Master, Mary MacLachlan.

The Puerto Vallarta Chamber Orchestra literally has talent from all four corners of the globe; from Europe to Asia, from North America to “down under.” Key among the membership is John Robertson; second chair Clarinet and composer/music arranger “par excellence.”

John was born in New Zealand and immigrated to Canada over 40 years ago. There he studied composition at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto. His skills and talents are a strategic part of each and every concert performed by the Vallarta Chamber Orchestra, and his craft is truly the “bedrock” for the orchestra’s final performance of the season, Sunday, March 21st.

The featured soloist for the evening, Vallarta’s own Mary MacLachlan, violinist, will be accompanied by the orchestra in her performance of Felix Borowski’s “Adoration.” The composition was originally written for Violin and Piano, but, thanks to John Robertson, the piano accompaniment has been orchestrated; elevating the lushness and warmth of the entire composition.

Additionally, the March 21st program includes a Robertson’s exposé, borrowing themes from the rich musical culture of Mexico in a composition entitled, “Mexican Fantasy.” Other composers of note; Mozart, Schubert and Aaron Copland round out the program … clearly Robertson keeps good company!

Tickets for this outdoor concert will be available at the door. $100 pesos per person / students free.

Tickets: 200 pesos (booked in advance and on sale now), or 250 pesos at the door.

Becas Vallarta A.C. is pleased to present once again this unique and sought-after event in its second year, which celebrates both academic and music education in our community in one of the most enchanting surroundings of Puerto Vallarta.

This year’s feature are another two of Vallarta’s own artists, the guitarist Mario Blanco and pianist Adriana Martínez.

Mario Blanco himself is well known in our city’s musical circles as a competent guitarist and trova singer performing in his own café “Blanco y Negro” in the Hotel Zone nightly. Mostly self-taught, this will be one of his first ventures into classical music – and what better way than to concertise alongside his daughter, Adriana Martinez.

Talented Adriana Martinez, on the other hand, was encouraged to become concert pianist by local pianist Antoine Lecomte. And finding no qualified piano teacher in Vallarta, she promptly applied and was accepted to the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Colima where she is completing her fourth semester toward a Bachelor of Music in Performance with Dr. Anatoli Zatin.

Even while attending master classes in 2005 and 2006 with various intenationally known teachers such as Anna Poklevska, Mikhail Markov, Elena Vassileva… in Colima, Adriana is a regular soloist with the University’s Fine Arts Chamber Orchestra.

With such a novel and delightful line-up, how can anyone afford not to come and celebrate this promising Valentine musical soiree with us and show whole-hearted support and love for these dual worthy causes!
