Earthdance was conceived in 1996 by artist/musician Chris Deckker, as a vision to unite the whole world through the universal platform of dance and music. Earthdance has now become the largest global synchronized dance event in the world.

Earthdance - Give Peace a Dance!

Earthdance has shown how the potent combination of music, dance and technology can be harnessed for positive and humanitarian aims. For one night all around the globe, people join together to dance as one global community, united with a common vision for peace and humanitarian aims.

Each year Earthdance has a theme, this time being: “Blessing the Children” and a percentage of the profit will be donated to Mundo Ceiba A.C., an organization with ecological activities operating in Oaxaca and Puerto Vallarta. This year Mundo Ceiba received a donation of a piece of land to build an ecological school, to bring workshops to the children and adults interested in taking care of mother nature.

Force productions supports national artists and this time they´ll bring 4 electronic projects with their talented live acts. Rasta Vibracion will give a live reggae concert on Sunday morning.

Also, talented djs that have played in NY and in other locations around Mexico will be in charge of keeping the party on.

KEEP THE CHANGE! » ¡REDONDEO! Becas Vallarta Benefits from OXXO

KEEP THE CHANGE!

—By Polly G. Vicars

A recent television commercial for a telephone service depicts a customer with a cashier telling him to keep the change as there is nothing he can do with 2 cents. The clerk tells him that he will take the 2 cents as he can call his brother in Argentina for that.

Well, all over Puerto Vallarta similar events are taking place in the local Oxxo stores. What is happening here is that Tiendas OXXO has made a commitment to local charities to ask clients to redondeo (round up, their purchases.) If their bill is $20.45 pesos, they should ask the store to redondeo and the extra 55 centavos will go to a local charity.

Last week Becas Vallarta President Mariel de Fregoso, Irene and Carl Johnson and I attended an event at the Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza, A. C. (RISE) where Mother Mary and the children received a check for $216,653.20 pesos representing three months of rounding up in the Tiendas Oxxo in the Puerto Vallarta area.

WOW! That is a lot of rounding up!

What an impressive event! The Oxxo managers who raised the most money were awarded certificates of achievement and several gifts from the Refugio and from Oxxo. A huge cake and soft drinks were shared with the more than 50 children receiving a home there and their guests. Songs were sung, smiles were brilliant and thanks were given.

Five of the young people from the Refugio, Lucía, Carmen, María, Aracely and Carlos, are Becas Vallarta scholarship students. They, along with “Mama” Sol Martinez Maciel, welcomed us and made us feel very much a part of the proceedings. We are so proud to help these bright young people who, despite almost overwhelming odds, are a shining example to the younger children, a tribute to the Refugio’s excellence and well on their way to becoming productive citizens of the community.

At the end of the program Oxxo announced that it changes charities every three months and that during August, September and October all the proceeds from the redondeo will go to our Becas Vallarta, A.C. to help provide scholarships to young Vallartenses of great ability and small economic resources. When you are paying for your purchases at Oxxo be sure to prompt the clerk to round up and know that you are a part of a great effort to see that all bright young students in our area get the education they desire and deserve, regardless of their economic situation!

The word is ¡REDONDEO!

Cut out the flyer below to show to the cashier every time you shop at one of our many OXXOS and remember, just say Redondeo!

Just a few comments from the excursion done on August 5, 2009:

What a great day and great experience. Joe”s tour and history was terrific. I love to know more about my adopted country. Then of course there was Joe and Monica’s lunch, best homecooked meal I have had in ages

The Hacienda is lovely, Joe is enthusiastic and a warm host. His information about how the Hacienda was run, the former occupants and owners, the ledgers & banking – it was quite interesting and lively in that setting. Loved the trip into town and the stop at the coffee roasters. Fun to see and smell and taste coffee production – and learn and appreciate the organic process.

The food was delicious – The explanation and walk around the grounds to see how silver was made was truly a highlight. Took some wonderful pictures! Again, Joe’s enthusiasm and knowledge brought it to life for us. He’s a good guide. I can’t think of anything that would have significantly made our time on the hacienda any better.

Oh my gosh Pamela, What fun, beauty, food and all the extras…Your son and wife are incredible..Truly, as far as i can see, nothing needs to be done, i think the place and its inhabitants says it all, simply wonderful..thank you.. I would love to go again…

I can only say it was a perfect day. The people were great as well as Joe and his wife and all the staff at the Hacienda. The food was outstanding as was the tequila that Joe served at our table.

We want to thank you so much for organizing this trip, and your son, his wife and the staff for all the work, and all of you for your hospitality today. We did have a wonderful day. The lunch was delicious and Joe’s historical background very informative. We did make new friends and we enjoyed the whole group.

Dates are filling up fast – so make your reservation as soon as possible! We hope to see you soon!

2009 VALLARTA UjENA BIKINI JAM » August 29 to September 7

UjENA JAM Bikini week in Puerto Vallarta, August 29 to September 7.

The UjENA Jam is the place to get noticed, build portfolios, network with leaders in the industry, gain valuable knowledge in the workshops, compete in exciting events, get exposure, win cash and prizes from UjENA and partnering companies, and have FUN!

“This Ujena Jam is a milestone for the company, it will be our 25th anniversary,” says Bob Anderson, Ujena Jam Founder and Director. “Every year we add a new event or aspect, and this year we’ll be having a 100 meter freestyle swim, and our 5K race, which has always been a big draw for PV’s local fitness and running buffs.”

Ujena’s 5K race will be sponsored by Personal Trainers Vallarta who will lead the warm up session and help set the pace for the September 6th race, which starts near the track across from the Sheraton at 9 am. Local sign ups can be done the day of the event starting at 7:30 am. $1000 in cash prizes are being awarded the winners.

This year the USA Vegan Vixens, a dance and entertainment group, will be providing a fashion show modeling Ujena’s new “organic” collection at the Clubkini Party held in conjunction with Maxim en Español’s “hotties” party at Punto V on Friday. “These are organic, plant-based fabrics,” says PR director Catherine Cross.

The Ujena Jam is the world’s largest live model and swimwear competition in the world. “Puerto Vallarta provides not only natural beauty and scenic backdrops, but we’ve been doing this for so long, the town is used to us and everyone really participates in a fun, festive and party atmosphere,” says Bob. “It’s really true that PV is Mexico’s friendliest city.”

Some of this year’s highlight nights will be on Sunday, August 30th at the Mandala Club, on Monday, August 31st at the Jungle Bar with the Ujena Staff in sexy animal prints, on Wednesday, September 2nd with a welcome party at Hilo, and on Thursday, September 3rd’s White-Fest at Glam.

This year’s Maxim en Español Ujena Clubkini Party, an annual costume party that’s always a big hit, will be held on Friday, September 4th at Mandala with a $10,000 pesos cash prize for the best costume.

On Sunday, September 6th, 2009 Ujena Jam Week culminates with the UjENA Image Awards Show (50 Image Awards will be presented by Ujena and more than 35 Jam Partners) at Nitro Club and an after party, celebrating 25 years of Ujena Jams in the Sky Bar.
