Benefit for Gib Hauersperger » Club Manana, Oct 22

Que Raro!, Club Mañana and Bar Frida are throwing a fundraiser for Gib on Wednesday, October 22nd.

Gib Hauersperger has been serving tourists here as a gay concierge for years. Recently, Gib has had some very serious medical issues resulting in multiple surgeries.

The fundraiser will be held at Club Mañana on Wed. Oct. 22 from 6 – 9 PM. Manana’s restaurant, Que Raro, will be putting out a very nice buffet and Frida will be supplying the wine. The suggested minimum donation for the event is $250 pesos.

There will be a cash bar for those who desire but the food, wine and soft drinks are included. Alec Mapa, the famous gay comedian and star of Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives will perform. There will also be a silent auction. Neither Club Mañana, Frida nor Mr. Mapa will be accepting any of the funds – 100% of the proceeds goes to Gib’s medical bills.

EPILOGUE

An outpouring of love for Gib was apparent on Wednesday evening as over 150 people descended on Que Raro!! and Club Manana for the benefit dinner. Gib gave a beautiful thank you speech from the stage followed by an amazing performance by the indomitable Alec Mapa. He had the audience in stitches. In addition to the entry donation, the silent auction and additional individual donations 60,000 pesos was raised for Gib’s medical care. Immense thanks goes out to everyone involved but particularly Tom and Luis of Bar Frida whose idea it was to hold the benefit as well as Gib’s dear friends Lee Bright, Derald Long and Chris Winn. WFL2 » Collage, Oct 18

On Saturday, October 18th at Collage, TAE Muay Gym will present WFL2 (Warriors Fighting Live 2) at 8 pm.

There will be 12 fights, the first six will be amateur and a mix of Muay Thai and Vale Todo (mixed martial arts.) The professional fights will all be Vale Todo and will have fighters coming from Tlaxcala, Puebla, Guadalajara and Aguascalientes. The lone Puerto Vallarta fighter will be Jimmy Haynes of Kansas(?), fighting out of Dragon Manzanarez Gym in his professional debut. Haynes was undefeated as an amateur and brings a strong wrestling background to his arsenal.

The ring will be six sided and will have a cage over it for all bouts and the ring will be utilized for the Vale Todo (Everything Goes) bouts.

The main event will feature David Sanchez of Tlaxcala vs. Manuel Peña of Guadalajara and the co-main event will feature Juan Delgado of Guadalajara vs. Javier Morales of Tlaxcala. Jimmy Haynes will be fighting Alejandro “El Tanque” of Guadalajara.

Five local Puerto Vallarta gyms will participate in the amateur action: Colegio Tae Muay Gym, Dragon Manzanarez Gym, Speedy Gonzalez Gym, Mota Gym and Sityodtong Gym. The Mangkhon Muay Thai Gym will also come in from Talpa for the event.

Both the professional and amateur events will be 3 rounds and 3 minutes per round and the rules will differ depending on what discipline is being fought. The fights will begin at 8 pm at Collage. Antique Auto Parade and Convention » October 23 to 26

Old Car buffs will have a great time from October 23 to 26 when approximately 50 antique cars will begin a trip from Guadalajara through Mascota to Puerto Vallarta for the 1st Annual Convention of the Club Automóvil Antiguo de Jalisco.

The caravan will drive into Vallarta at approximately 7:30 pm on the 23rd. Headquarters for the Convention will be the Buenaventura Hotel. The convention is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Model T Ford and will include lectures and films related to old cars.

On Saturday, October 25, there will be another caravan of all of the cars to the Sports Stadium where, at 11:30 am, the cars will be on public display for a couple of hours until they start their motors and parade through downtown Puerto Vallarta. On Sunday, the caravan will return to Guadalajara.
