Red Ribbon Night » Club Mañana, January 23

Friday, January 23, 2009 from 8 – 10 PM is the “Red Ribbon Night” charity benefit for V.E.S. (Vallarta confronts AIDS). Club Mañana’s very own Joanna and Cassandra headline a star-studded night of celebrity entertainment.

Donation is only $200, 100% of which goes to V.E.S. There will be a cash bar and complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served.

There is going to be some great entertainment at the event, MC’d by Cassandra and starring Joanna, Mikki Prost & Diva. The Condoneras will be handing out Red Ribbons & condoms to all in attendance and there will be an information table set up with everything you need to know about HIV / AIDs and safe sex, along with the usual jar full of condoms and lube. The Condoneras never go without them…

Tickets will be sold throughout town. For a complete list of where to buy tickets go to www.clubmanana.com or call 22-3 05-35 or stop by Hidalgo #457 in el centro.

Can Beer Bottles be Recycled with lime wedges inside?

Empty Corona Beer BottleOf course, any type of glass can be recycled with lime wedges inside. At the recycling plant, the glass is shattered and melted at 1600 degrees, well above the flash point of cerveza-soaked lime wedges.

OK, so this question isn’t totally relevant down here in Mexico where the beer bottles are reused, not recycled.

Can the bottles be reused with wedges inside?

This question was answered rather obliquely late one night by a local bartender who used to work at a Corona Bottling Plant. He said that you will know if a bottle is cleaned and sterilized if it doesn’t have an old lime wedge floating in it before you open it.

And then there’s the old bar bet:

(Indicating an empty Corona with lime wedge in bottom of bottle).

  • “I’ll bet you a beer that I can get this lime out of the bottle in less than a second.”
  • “No, way – you’re on”.

(Rapidly swing the bottle down towards the floor with the opening facing downwards. The lime slides out like grease through a goose.)

If you’re the type of person who thinks that the way to win this bet is to break the bottle, you have perfect personality traits to hang out in a *real* cantina.

Becas Breakfast at Daiquiri Dick’s

You can help bright young Puerto Vallarta girls and boys realize their dreams of an education by attending the Becas Breakfast at Daiquiri Dick’s Restaurant, Olas Altas #314 on Los Muertos Beach this Wednesday, January 14 at 9:30 am.

We will have great raffle prizes from the local businesses that continue to support us, and Daiquiri Dick’s will serve you a hot and delicious breakfast of your choice of Chilaquiles, Scrambled Eggs with ham and cheese or Huevos Rancheros. Each comes with hash browns, toast, juice and coffee.

While you are enjoying a fabulous breakfast, and perhaps winning a valuable prize, you will be helping to insure that Vallarta’s bright, but economically challenged young people will be able to get the education they deserve.

Tickets cost just $150 pesos per person and must be purchased in advance by calling:

  • Margaret Tolton – (322) 223-1835
  • Polly Vicars – 223-1371
