Puerto Vallarta Democrats Abroad Inauguration Party » January 20

Democrats Abroad Mexico – Costa Banderas Chapter And Vallarta Botanical Gardens, A.C. cordially invite you to an Inaugural Celebration at the splendid Vallarta Botanical Gardens On Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 10:00am to 6:00 pm.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Unfortunately the United States Democratic Party, once thought of as a party of the people, is now the exclusive political party in the US and, at least here in Vallarta, forbids (by prohibitively high prices for its events) all but the wealthy from attending. This inauguration, which should have been a massive popular celebration, is now simply a garden party.

Help Toys for Tots Deliver Miles of Smiles

toys for tots
The 2009 Toys for Tots Vallarta toy distribution program is scheduled to run from January 5th to January 7th at the Marriott Hotel, Av. Paseo de la Marina no. 5, in the Marina,
Puerto Vallarta.

The following activities will take place:

1. Begin blowing up balls and separate all toys into routes: Monday, January 5, 2009, 11 am – Main Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel. We have four air compressors, but need more to for the blowing-up of balls: continuous air compressors are needed.

2. Toy distribution: Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 7 am – Parking lot of the Marriott Hotel. Toys for Tots Vallarta will need trucks or vans that have covers for some of the routes.

If you are going to caravan on the distribution routes, you should bring water and a snack. Depending on the route, four-wheel drive vehicles might be necessary. Once we finalize the route leaders, we will send you their names and contact information so you can plan what route you will join and what the requirements will be vehicle and time-wise.

Come and join Toys for Tots Vallarta for the preparation and distribution! It will be time well spent!

At 7 am, we will gather in the parking lot of the Casa Magna Marriott Hotel in Marina Vallarta. There is limited parking available in the parking lot, so if you are not loading toys please park on adjoining streets.

The loading of toys will begin at 7 am. There will be a brief ceremony before the caravans depart to begin the distribution of toys. Please note that a few of the caravans will depart earlier than 7 am due to travel distance.

To learn how you can help Toys for Tots deliver smiles to thousands of poor children around Banderas Bay on January 7th, contact Bill Clark at (322) 222-3616 or clarkbill (at) earthlink.net

The following is a list of routes with brief descriptions of areas each will visit. Included is the route leader, telephone number and email. Please contact the route leader for the area of distribution you are interested in participating.

Liv Boughn, Professional Actress and Acting Instructor will begin teaching a new acting class for adults beginning January 6th due to popular demand. Classes will be held at the Santa Barbara Theater with a focus on: scene-study, monologue work, character development, improvisation and traditional theater exercises. Space is limited to ensure personalized attention for all students. Adult Acting will be on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:00-5:30 p.m., $800 pesos/month.

Liv Boughn
Her dynamic Classes for Kids ages 6-12 yrs. will reconvene the week of January 5th on Mondays and Wednesdays. In addition, Liv’s popular High School Acting Class for teens will resume on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Call the theater at 223-2048 or email her at: pvactress (at) hotmail.com for more information.

Boughn graduated from the highly selective Theater Conservatory Program at the University of Southern California. She is an award winning actress, public speaker and international model whose credits include lead roles in over 35 plays and several guest appearances on TV and film. She has also had success in commercial acting and has been featured in promos for MTV, The Discovery Channel, and in dozens of commercials for clients such as: Alaska Airlines, Ford Motors, Miller Light, Marriott Hotels, etc. Additionally, Liv was chosen to represent the U.S.A. in the 1998 International Children’s Theatre Festival in Croatia.

Many of Liv’s students and coaching clients have continued their education at prestigious acting programs and are now at top agencies. For example, one of her Puerto Vallarta coaching clients was the talented Jayce Johnson who is now at Hart College specializing in musical theater. Still others have excelled by booking theatrical, commercial and print campaigns including: Seventeen Magazine, Noxzema, Gillette and Dove. A few have been on primetime shows such as ER, on major Disney series, movies such as “Transformers” and “Charlie’s Angels, Full Throttle,” and have worked with producers such as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Steven Spielberg. One of Liv’s former students is the now famous Shia LaBeouf who played the latest young Indiana Jones in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

Fido Club » the premier Puerto Vallarta Home Dining Club

At the end of low season in 2008 when everyone was starving (Sept-hambre…), Robin Spencer of Casa del Angel had an epiphany one lonely night.

“Why not have an organization here in Vallarta, a dining club, for people who live and work here,” She mused, “where tired, hungry, thirsty, discriminating Vallartense can kick back and relax and not have to pay tourista prices for a great meal and companionship?”

So she invited some friends over to her house for a party where everyone chipped in for the cost of the meal and everyone brought their own bottle(s) and everyone helped clean up. Great idea. So Fido Club was born. Anyone can join and the only requirement is that you have to cook a dinner for others at some point. This is a no-profit organization.

FIDO CLUB is a great way to meet people and to see how (other) expats live in Puerto Vallarta.

To this date Fido Club has had almost a dozen dinners and 3 organizational meetings/dinners at a local, relatively unknown restaurant. It has also sponsored a wine tasting of locally available selections.

Sign up and membership are free and open to anyone who lives here in Vallarta at least of Snow-Bird status and who is willing to host a dinner.
